Art Pause

Answers to common questions about the iPhone app.

Frequently asked questions

How do I save an artwork?

Open an artwork and tap its bookmark button. Open Saved to see your selection. Tap the bookmark again to remove it.

Can I view artworks offline?

Yes. The included artworks and their images are packaged with the app. Rooms, Explore, artwork details, zoom, and Saved can show those works without a connection. Opening an artwork's museum record requires internet access.

Why is an artwork image missing?

The included images should be available offline. Close and reopen the app, then check for an update. If an included image cannot load, the app may try a fallback image from its source museum when you are online. If the problem continues, email support with the artwork title.

How do I look closely at a painting?

Open an artwork and choose its close-looking view. Pinch or use the zoom controls to magnify the image, then drag to inspect details. The amount of visible detail depends on the source image.

What are Rooms?

Rooms are three curated paths through selected works in the launch collection: After Hours, A Study in Blue, and Figures Alone. Open “Enter the rooms” from the Explore home screen.

Can I search for any museum artwork?

Explore searches the works currently included in Art Pause. It is not a live search of the museum's full collection.

Do my saved works sync to another iPhone?

No. Saved works are stored on this device and do not use an Art Pause account or cloud sync.

Where does the artwork information come from?

Artwork details and images are sourced from The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the National Gallery of Art. Each artwork detail page links to its source museum record. Art Pause is independent and is not endorsed by either museum.
